An Early Holiday Present from Avery

While going through submissions for both the Small Spaces Fiction Prize and A Very Avery Flasher Contest, it occurred to us: Why not give Small Spaces entrants another month to get ready?

The response for both contests has been great so far — keep it coming, guys! — but we know it’d be even greater if we gave everyone a little more time. Time to polish that last paragraph, rewrite that opening line, give the whole thing a once-over one. More. Time. Before sending it along. Especially our workshop student friends — you’re working on those final drafts right about now, aren’t you? We thought so.

So Happy Holidays, Avery friends, fans, and family: The Small Spaces Fiction Prize will remain open until December 25th!

Thank you, Kickstarter

Nic, Adam, and I (along with Tim, Nic’s wonderful hubby) were throwing around an idea a few weeks back:  let’s use Kickstarter to help us fund a really cool project.

We came up with the 25 Cities Project.

Now, this post won’t tell you anything about our upcoming project (for that, check back in a week or so), but this simple post will refer you to a current Kickstarter project that simply blows my mind.  Check it out here.

Here’s what Kyle says, “My plan is to build a mobile print shop in the back of an old delivery truck. Within these tight quarters, I’ll create an efficient and fully functional shop, with a small table top press for printing smaller work, and a larger proof press, capable of printing larger posters.”  As if that weren’t wonderful enough, she adds, “And then I’ll take this rig on the road! I plan on visiting schools, art spaces, city parks, music festivals, craft shows, parties, and anywhere else that might have an interest in learning about printing.”

How cool is that?  Congrats, Kyle.  And thank you, Kickstarter.

Presenting Avery: the T-shirt

I couldn’t get to Jakprints fast enough. It was rush hour and it was raining, but it was the only time I could get there this week and so away I went.

Jakprints is located in downtown Cleveland, and while our downtown area is a far cry from most, it’s still a bit hectic and I don’t know my way around too well. Lots of abandoned buildings and run-down gas stations. I had to use googlemaps to locate Jakprints, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

It was easy to find, and I walked right in.

Very cool atmosphere. Beautiful prints all over, t-shirts galore, business cards you want to keep holding in your hands they feel so smooth (what the heck kind of card stock is that?). I gave them our name and the large box of t-shirts was wheeled on a dolly to my car.

Text to Nicolette: guess what I have in my backseat?
Nicolette to me: t-shirts?!
