All submissions for the 25 Cities Project should be made through Submishmash. Each story or image should be submitted to the appropriate city category. Avery only considers previously unpublished material.
STORY GUIDELINES
- One of the 25 cities must play an integral role in the story’s development (see the entire list here). You may consider this a “place as character” requirement, or a lens through which your characters exist and develop. NOTE: The entire story need not take place in said city.
- 15 pages double-spaced or shorter. NOT NEGOTIABLE. Anything longer will be withdrawn from consideration.
- Work should not be journalistic. This is not a collection of travel writing or reviews.
- Work should be previously unpublished.
PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES
- Images should be of the city for which they are submitted. They need not be of architectural features or landscapes; images portraying the city’s culture or people are welcome.
- Images must be at least 7”x7” at 240 ppi.
- Black-and-white images preferred, but color will be accepted.
- Submit only JPEG, TIFF, or PSD files.
- Multiple submissions encouraged, but each image must be submitted separately. Batch submissions will be withdrawn.
- Our project’s photo curator and art director reserves the right to edit photos, including color and size changes, for publication. Submitter will be able to approve final image before publication.
Submissions for each city will remain open until both a story and image are found. Do not submit a story or image for a closed city to another category; it will be withdrawn.
Free to submit. Payment will be made in the form of contributor copies.
